Video: Did Investigation Miss Key Moment in Columbine Attack? | Westword

everlasting-contrast:

The media is just now responding to our CCTV footage find of the boys planting the bombs in the cafeteria (due to CVA breaking it on YouTube a few weeks ago). Thanks to Alan Prendergast, thorough veteran Westword journalist of all things Columbine for championing our important news to (the rest) of the world. He posts CVAs video, ponders the revised timeline of events and calls into question how/why JeffCo missed this important evidence (Oopsy!)

JCSO spokesman Mark Techmeyer declined to comment on the video. “This is a closed investigation, and we no longer have anything of evidentiary value to evaluate,”

Boo, JeffCo.

Lmao, I love how they actually say they have nothing of evidentiary value to evaluate when they completely missed the bomb placements on this video they’ve had for 17 years now. I love Alan Prendergast’s stuff (one of the few journalists I would trust in regards to Columbine!) and love how he even dragged other JeffCo mishaps into this:

A Westword analysis of 911 and dispatch calls, released many
months after the attack, showed that the sheriff’s report incorrectly
claimed that officers were on scene earlier than they actually arrived.
One gun battle between Harris and officers on the school’s west side
apparently occurred more than ten minutes later than the report claims
it did. And, of course, officials worked earnestly for two years to conceal a draft affidavit for a warrant to search Eric Harris’s house, prepared a year before the attack in response to complaints that he was building pipe bombs and threatening other students.

Real talk. If we did lose the basement tapes forever to another round of gross incompetence from JeffCo, I promise I will write the most gloriously hilarious rendition of them in honour of what we lost out on. (I may just do that anyway, hah.)

But I don’t quite buy that the tapes were destroyed altogether. A lot of the material from a case like Columbine would be subject to archiving laws, as globally detailed by yours truly here and here. While it is possible that some of the less important evidence was destroyed following the end of a specific ‘archive holding law’ over those, it is also far more likely that another part of the evidence is subject to be kept on-file for years to come regardless of whether the case is closed or not. The basement tapes are something I firmly believe to be in the ‘keep’-section of that Columbine-related archive.

So, let’s all take a collective deep breath. It’s possible we lost the tapes forever. It’s also entirely possible that JeffCo or the state of Colorado or the town council of Littleton or some other official hoopla still has everything that matters safely tucked away in their (digitalised) records.

One thing that stood out to me in the comments on this article is the following quote about Eric’s stay in Plattsburgh and the entire “Walsh buttrape”-thing: “Eric reported to his friends that he remembered being drugged & loosing time when at the base. Then he’s got cops apparently raping him (reinforcing trauma based MK?) & drugging involved… Hmmm & reports of them having grenades not pipe bombs & the cops being ordered NOT to enter during the shooting…”

Okay, so we know that there were pipebombs found on-scene (we have pictures) and I’m pretty sure those can give off pretty loud ‘booms’ that may not be on grenade-level but equally disruptive/disturbing. (Do we know of any official documents mentioning grenades? I have no recollection of it whatsoever, but want to bet that Eric would’ve loved to get his hands on some..) We know that the cops formed a perimeter around the school rather than going in and that the SWAT unit ended up entering the school in the wrong location despite there being audio contact with the site of the shooting at the time. The behaviour of JeffCo during/after the massacre is not really what you’d commonly expect to happen in a case like this one, so they end up looking suspicious more than anything else. Fuel to the fire and all that jazz.

What is, however, really interesting is the link made with Plattsburgh. Official info says it’s just a random airbase with no real major history going on, but conspiracy theorists have spoken about sublevels and experiments and gods know what else. (One story relating to Eric can also be found here. It also has some further info on your run-of-the-mill conspiracies surrounding Plattsburgh.) Now — and please correct me if I’m wrong — I have yet to see clear evidence of Eric telling ‘friends’ that he was drugged and lost time during his stay at the base? It does not make sense to me that he would long to go back to his friends and his life there if what he was subjected to back there was this disconcerting, you know? Plus, wouldn’t they have to keep that mind control shit up over the years instead of letting him walk out of there without checking up on him over time? (This is why you should never give me conspiracy theories, lol. I will analyse them to the point of tears.) I don’t buy this for a minute, but the thought of “what if” is making me snort my drink back out my nose in a panic because hello can we say “whole new level of crazy” or what?

Also, that drawing’s really shitty. I always assumed that those squiggles were trees and rocks and shrubs or something (dude I would even mention seeing a cactus rather than a police officer but what do I know) and it’d honestly take a genius/someone who is not me to see something else in that. I’ve always thought the guys were pissed at the cops for catching them in the act and forcing them through diversion and shit like that, you know? Nothing going on that’d warrant any trauma outside of their poor fragile little egos getting hurt, at least. =)
